TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Starting today, all Starbucks outlets in Indonesia will gradually replace plastic straws with paper straws. Through this movement, more than 30 million plastic straws will be reduced every year.

In line with this initiative, PT Sari Coffee Indonesia will proactively disseminate the use of "For Here" glass for every drink that consumed in the Starbucks outlet. As for drinks consumed outside the outlet, the "Bring Your Own Tumbler" program that has been running for 11 years will be increasingly encouraged.

Starbucks Indonesia started the initiative to use paper straws to replace plastic straws since October 1, 2018, through the "Greener Nusantara" movement in Bali. This program then continued in Labuan Bajo, Lombok and Bandung in September 2019.

"As a part of the community, we strive to support the programs and movement, including the movement to reduce waste in Indonesia. Greener Nusantara is an initiative to support the mission, as well as one form of our responsibility to the environment," said Anthony Cottan the Director of PT Sari Coffee Indonesia, holder of the Starbucks Indonesia brand, through an official broadcast received by Bisnis, Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

Meanwhile, Andrea Siahaan, Senior General Manager of PR & Communications of PT Sari Coffee Indonesia, said that reducing plastic straws is a great step forward. "Reducing the use of plastic straws in more than 430 Starbucks outlets in Indonesia is a step that creates real impact. We will continue to disseminate and invite customers to reduce plastic waste."

One of Greener Nusantara's vision is in line with Starbucks' initiative to get rid of the use of plastic straws by the end of 2020. Starbucks also invites all customers in Indonesia to participate.
