Erick Thohir Fears Coronavirus will Hit Indonesia Economy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir said the novel coronavirus outbreak is not only dangerous to health, but also to the economy. Erick is worried that the Wuhan-originated disease will weaken Indonesia's economic growth.
"We have a 5% economic growth target that is needed to create jobs. And indeed we have a huge population," Erick said in Jakarta, Monday, February 10.
A weakened economy, the minister said, will lower the number of new employments, and Indonesia's dream to be among the world's top five economies by 2045 may not be achieved because of it.
Erick said that the coronavirus outbreak has hit China's financial markets. Additionally, workers are staying home and not going to work, reducing the country's productivity. Furthermore, foreign-based experts have temporarily left China.
