TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani opined that the ongoing global uncertainty since 2019 is attributable to men-made policies. She said a variety of problems starting from the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union or Brexit, the US-China war, up to the Hong Kong protest are because of men.

“Almost all of it is related to men-made [policies]. By means, the men made the problems,” said Minister Sri at Fairmont Hotel Jakarta, Wednesday, February 5.

According to her, those issues emerged due to the lack of women participating in the policymaking, or because of the lack of female representation.

Britain officially stopped being a member of the EU on January 31, 2020, which was led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Meanwhile, the trade war between the US and China was triggered by the protective policy issued by US President Donald Trump which was then responded by China under the reign of President Xi Jinping.

The global uncertainty was then ushering the global economic growth to a weak point last year, causing many countries gearing up policies to deal with the sluggish global economy and improve their domestic economy.

Even in the past decade, the former managing director of the World Bank said that many countries had run out of ammunition and lacked strategy in facing the declining global economy. As a result, there was turmoil in the global market. "This is alarming."

On the other hand, Sri Mulyani noted that Indonesia is an anomaly of the depressing condition, given the country’s economic growth that was recorded stable at around 5 percent, and historically, its driving factor was the domestic consumption.
