TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Residents of the government-subsidized housing program, Green Citayam City, is facing a possible eviction due to an unresolved land dispute. This has driven the residents to request the government’s involvement to help solve the issue.

One resident, Ridwansyah (40), asked for the central government to assist them in obtaining land certification and mediate the parties involved in the dispute. “We ask for the government to mediate our rights to obtain a land certificate [of ownership],” said Ridwan to Tempo, Friday, January 31.

He also revealed that there are hundreds of residents in the housing complex that face the same fate as he does, with all of them facing the possibility of having to leave their houses.

“In its principle, we are sure that the public’s interest comes over the interest of individuals or groups. Every Indonesian citizen has the rights for justice according to what is mentioned in the Pancasila,” said Ridwan.

He and fellow residents have established a temporary post to express their disappointment and resistance against the verdict issued by the Cibinong District Court which stated that the 50-hectares of land currently used by Green Citayam City is owned by PT Tjitajam. Meanwhile, the court considers its developer, PT Green Construction City, had snatched a part of that land.
