TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The situation in Iran is heating up due to a dispute with the United States, making airlines that travel through the airspace to be extra vigilant. The state-owned airline, PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) did not remain silent and continued to closely monitor the development of conditions in Iran.

Official Operation Director of Garuda Indonesia, Tumpal Manumpak Hutapea said that the airline continues to coordinate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the security aspects of the flight. "So that the operational of Garuda Indonesia will always be safe," said Tumpal in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 8, 2020.

Garuda Indonesia ensures that the airlines for the flight route from and to Europe do not pass through the Iranian air and the surrounding. “Garuda Indonesia is adjusting the flight route from and to Europe from which previously pass through the Bucharest air transferred to the Egyptian air and Greece," said Tumpal.

The flight route changing made the entire operational services of Garuda Indonesia still take place as normal.

The transition route is conducted following the no-fly zone that issued by the Authority of the United States Federal Aviation (FAA) after the tension that was going on in the region, after Iran fired a rocket into a U.S. air base-Iraq.

Besides Garuda Indonesia which heed the warning of flying by the FAA, Singapore Airlines Ltd. stated they will shift its flight route to Europe. The company is worried because of Iran's attack and the conflict will spread throughout the Middle East.

China Airlines also said they will not fly through the territory of Iran or Iraq because of the increased tension in its region, as reported by Reuters.

Similar move are performed by Eva Air, another airlines in Taiwan and Malaysia Airlines. Those three airlines were declared to avoid flying over the Iran's airspace.
