TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Welcoming 2020, many people may have started to set new health resolutions that may involve giving up the habit of smoking.

Cigarette smoking has been proven to be a contributing factor of one out of five deaths in the United States each year and is also the main cause of preventable chronic diseases.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2018 recorded more than 34 million adults in the states as smokers who are struggling with abandoning the habit.

For those in the process of quitting, there are many ways to resist the temptation of smoking. One of which is by avoiding certain foods and beverages that research found to have a critical role in suppressing a person’s desire in smoking.

A Medical Daily report on January 3 found that fizzy drinks, alcohol, coke, tea, and coffee, are categorized as beverages that may make cigarettes taste better than they really are.

Another research reported by the Daily Express on Wednesday stated that U.K.’s National Health Service (NHS) found that shifting from the aforementioned beverages to juices and drinking more water are able to reduce your craving to light up another cigarette.

Moreover, other than beverages, foods that can help make cigarettes taste terrible include cheese, fruit, and vegetables. Practicing light health activities such as walking may able to stop your craving that the NHS states last only 5-minutes on average.
