Actress Ria Irawan Passes Away at 50

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Actress Ria Irawan passed away on Monday morning, January 6, 2020. The news first came from film director Ernest Prakasa.

"I just got word from Mbak Dewi Irawan (the sister of Ria Irawan), that dear Mbak Ria Irawan has passed away. Goodbye Mbak Ria, so long," wrote Ernest Prakasa. Ria Irawan died after fighting stage four lymph node cancer.

Previously, Ria Irawan was sentenced to suffer endometrial cancer in 2014. She was declared cured after undergoing various treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation.

Three years later, the cancer cells in her body became active again and the disease recurred. Ria Irawan had to go back and forth to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital to undergo treatment. She was last treated in September 2019.

Ria Irawan died at the age of 50 years. She has been active in the film industry since the 1980s. Ria Irawan was born into a family of artists. Her father, mother and brother, the late Bambang Irawan, the late Ade Irawan, and Dewi Irawan were also filmmakers.
