TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) responded positively to many parties planning to endorse President Jokowi’s son Gibran Rakabuming Raka for Solo Regional Head Election 2020.
Albeit the party has not yet decided to officially back Gibran, PDIP is open to a possible coalition with other parties.
“PDIP is open to all political parties willing to have a synergy in the regional election,” said the party’s central executive board Ahmad Basarah in Kalibata, South Jakarta, Tuesday, December 31. However, he added, there will be requirements and criteria for the partnership.
Basarah said his side was still conducting internal studies and surveys regarding candidates for the upcoming election race in 270 regions. “We have not issued any recommendation, including for Gibran,” said the deputy speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR).
According to Basarah, there are two scenarios PDIP may apply in the Solo regional head election. First, candidates to be supported are the party’s cadres so a coalition will not be needed. “This is an ideal plan.”
Meanwhile in the second scenario, PDIP may endorse a regional candidate head, while the deputy candidate will be from other parties, that forces PDIP to create a coalition. To date, parties that open the possibility to back Gibran are NasDem, Democrat, PPP, and PKS.
