TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD gathered state ministers in a plenary meeting to discuss issues in Papua that happened in the past months.
“Today we discussed a number of issues about the development in Papua for the past week and the future,” said Mahfud MD in opening the meeting at his headquarters in Central Jakarta on Friday.
However, Mahfud did not specifically elaborate the information he received from Papua’s law enforcers regarding the region’s conditions that were said to be unstable since early December. Two notable issues were security issues with local separatists and the resignation of Nduga Deputy Regent, Wentius Nimiangge, that was driven by what he said were lingering violence by local law enforcers.
Attending the meetings were Communication and Information Minister Johnny G Plate, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Deputy Defense Minister Wahyu Sakti Trenggono, TNI Commander Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, National Police Deputy Chief Comr. Gen. Ari Dono Sukmanto, and officials of the Home Affairs Ministry and the National Intelligence Agency (BIN).
