TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Commission II at the House of Representatives (DPR), Arwani Thomafi, demanded President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo explain the urgency in forming a new structure of presidential deputy chief of staff. Arwani opined that since the beginning, the government has encouraged the spirit of bureaucratic reform.
“Do not create a perception that the presence of such a post contradicts the President’s big plans, including simplifying the administration’s organization,” said Arwani in a written statement, Thursday, December 26.
The President earlier issued a presidential decree No. 83/2019 on presidential staff office, which stipulates the new post of deputy chief of the presidential staff. The post was not available during Joko Widodo’s first term of office.
The PPP politician considered it appropriate if the presidential staff office and its structure were established to support the president’s program. However, the urgency in the new formation must be explained to the public.
“At least [the government can say that] the new post is a result of an in-depth study because of the organization’s needs and is aimed to accelerate the presidential staff office’s works. The government must explain this matter clearly,” Arwani remarked.
