TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Pertamina Chief Commissioner Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has been ordered by President Jokowi to reduce the country’s fuel imports to suppress Indonesia’s trade balance deficit.

Ahok, who was appointed on November 25, said that he has prepared several strategies with one of it involving the development of PT Trans-Pacific Petrochemical Indotama (TPPI).

Pak President Jokowi’s message was clear, to complete the development of the TPPI area into a national petrochemical industry that will later produce various petrochemical derivative products and fuel variants,” Ahok announced in his official Instagram account on Sunday, December 22.

Not only will the TPPI help significantly reduce fuel imports, he believes that it will be the main pedestal for Indonesia’s petrochemical and oil and gas derivatives.

“This development will help reduce imports of raw materials, which helps the country from experiencing deficits again,” said Ahok.

The former Jakarta Governor also called for fellow Indonesians to take care of the country’s economy is aiming for the country’s welfare.
