TEMPO.CO, Jakarta- The Jakarta Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA Jakarta) announced that it has released 40 snakes at the Mount Halimun National Park throughout 2019.
“The species include python and cobra snakes that were rescued by a number of communities and BKSDA,” said Head of BKSDA Jakarta Ahmad Munawir at North Jakarta’s Angke Nature Park on Thursday.
Moreover, he says that the BKSDA also received around 20 reports of snake bites that were mostly python-bite injuries and a cobra-bite report from Kembangan, West Jakarta.
Jakarta was recently hit by news of cobra outbreak in several locations and was handled by local firefighters who secured dozens of snakes from people’s homes. The snake outbreak had also driven the BKSDA Jakarta to hold a discussion about the issue.
Apart from releasing snakes at the Mount Halimun national park, the BKSDA also reintroduced 30 lemurs.
