Ministry Lists 5 Most Popular Tourist Destinations in Yogyakarta

TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Tourism Ministry has announced the five most popular tourist destinations in Yogyakarta. The five sites are named as national tourism strategic areas and are prioritized for development.

“We have five national tourism strategic areas in Yogyakarta,” said Agustin Perangin Angin, the ministry’s director of tourist destination affairs, in Bantul, Yogyakarta, Wednesday, December 18.

Among the five are Mount Merapi and Mount Merbabu, Prambanan Temple in Kalasan of Sleman Regency that will soon have Handayani Bridge, and Keraton or Palace in Kotagede.

The other is karst areas in Mount Kidul, including in Wonogiri and Pacitan, which is renowned as Mount Sewu Geopark.

The last tourist favorite destination is located along the south coast of Yogyakarta. “Starting from Baron Beach, Krakal Beach, and those in the west areas namely Parangtritis Beach, Depok Beach, Trisik Beach in Kulonprogo, up to beaches in Purworejo until Kebumen,” Agustin said.

According to Agustin, a program event dubbed the 'sunset run' which will be held in the future possibly becomes a new tourism brand in Bantul.
