TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The executive director of Media Survei Nasional or Median pollster, Rico Marbun, said the electability of Gibran Rakabuming Raka was also affected by the performance of his father, Joko “Jokowi” Widodo. The President’s eldest son is determined to run in the 2020 Solo regional head election.

“For the next nine months, Pak Jokowi’s performance will likely influence the votes for Gibran,” said Rico in the release of a survey related to the Solo regional head election at Bumbu Desa restaurant in Cikini, Jakarta, on Monday, December 16.

The 2020 regional election is slated to be held on September 23, 2020, while the registration is open on June 16-18.

Median conducted the survey from December 3-9, 2019, involving a total of 800 respondents in Solo city, Central Java. Referring to the survey results, Gibran’s electability rate was far behind the incumbent candidate who is also Solo Deputy Mayor, Achmad Purnomo, who was endorsed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) regional branch office.

On top of mind, the electability rate of the President's son was 19.1 percent and Purnomo earned 40.9 percent. Meanwhile, on the close-ended questions, their electability rates were 24.5 percent and 45 percent, respectively.

Rico outlined 27.8 percent of the respondents voted for Gibran Rakabuming based on his young age, 18.5 percent chose him because of emotional factors, and 13 percent for his figure as a creative entrepreneur. "[While] most people opt for Achmad Purnomo because of his experience. They have pretty high rationalism," Rico added.
