TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD claimed that cases of human rights violations had never happened under President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's administration.

"Go ahead and check, President Jokowi’s term that started in 2014 up until now, not one case of human rights violations ever happened,” said Mahfud MD in Jakarta on Thursday, December 12.

According to the former Constitutional Court Chief Justice, the legal definition of a human rights violation is violations committed by government authorities which are planned and aims to gain a specific goal.

Mahfud said that cases of physical violence from authorities against people, from people against authorities, or people against people, are considered general crimes.

"There are many crimes. Violations committed by individuals are plenty and are being processed," said Mahfud MD.

However, Mahfud said that ongoing human rights violations still exist with 11 cases that have yet been solved from the 1960s, 1980s, and the well-known shooting of Trisakti University students during the 1998 national uprising.
