Komnas HAM Urges Police to Expose Novel Baswedan Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) commissioner Choirul Anam hoped National Police could reveal the acid attack case against Novel Baswedan on December 9, which coincided with the International Anti-Corruption Day.
“We consider Novel as a human rights defender. So if the police chief, his team, and KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) are aware of this case, we hope there is something new on the Novel’s case,” Anam told Tempo in his office, Wednesday, December 4.
Anam expected the anti-corruption day and human rights day on December 10 could be momentum for the police to publish their investigation results of the case that occurred in April 2017.
As of date, the police stated there was no further discussion with the palace in light of the case development.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo previously said he had set a deadline to police chief Gen. Idham Azis to resolve the case of Novel Baswedan.
“I have ordered the new police chief that I gave him time until early December,” said Jokowi during a dialogue with the press at Merdeka State Palace, Jakarta on Friday, November 1.
