TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Nadiem Makarim announced that a team under his command is currently conducting a study to revamp Indonesia’s grading system. He said the revamped system will take form as a useful form of self-introspection in the education sector.

“The grading system needs to be focused on basic competence that will be widely useful,” said Nadiem on Tuesday, December 3. “We must dare to change and improve.”

The GoJek founder and the firm’s former CEO said his plan corresponds to President Jokowi’s intention to create superior human resources and also promises to constantly produce breakthroughs.

Nadiem Makarim mentioned results from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018 that is useful to evaluate and improve Indonesia’s education system.

“Improving learning quality remains the first priority. We will continue to involve teachers and parents. It is important for the government to give enough space for those who are involved in teaching activities,” said Nadiem Makarim.
