Batik Air Makes Emergency Landing after Pilot Reportedly Fainted

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura I of the El Tari Kupang International Airport said that it will wait for the official investigation report on the incident that saw a Batik Air flight make an emergency landing after its pilot fainted mid-flight from Jakarta to Kupang.

The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) is currently undergoing a thorough examination of the incident. At the time, the plane safely landed at the El Tari Kupang International Airport after the First Officer took over the controls.

“The cause of the pilot passing out is yet to be verified, we are still waiting for further examinations from the KNKT,” said Barata Singgih Riwahono, El Tari Kupang International Airport General Manager on Sunday, November 17.

According to him, the pilot of the Batik Air flight ID 6548 was immediately rushed to the Siloam Hospital in the region.

This incident was confirmed by Batik Air’s strategic communication head, Danang Mandala Prihantoro who acknowledged that one of the company’s pilots had indeed suffered from a “sudden health decline” mid-flight.

“The pilot in command had lowered the plane’s altitude after experiencing a headache that dropped the pilot’s concentration,” said Danang.
