TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Geological Disaster Technology's Center for Investigation and Development (BPPTKG) stated that Mount Merapi experienced two debris-flow avalanches on Sunday, November 3. The debris flow occurred from 06:00 to 12:00 West Indonesia Time.

A debris-flow avalanche is a vibration caused by large pieces of rock that fell from the volcano's lava dome.

The BPPTKG chief, Hanik Humaida, said in an official statement Sunday said that the two landslides had an amplitude of 4-5 mm, which lasted between 12 and 42 seconds.

The BPPTKG also recorded one distant tectonic earthquake, with an amplitude of 5 mm, lasting for 75.2 seconds.

To date, the BPPTKG keeps Mount Merapi's status at Level II or Alert. They discouraged climbing except for the investigation and research purposes with regards to disaster mitigation efforts.

The BPPTKG also asked residents to stay out of the three-kilometers radius from the summit of Mount Merapi.
