TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Jokowi has confirmed that he will not issue a government's regulation in lieu of law (perpu) to annul the revised Corruption Eradication Commission Law (KPK Law) that was passed this year.

He argued a material test of the KPK Law was still afoot at the Constitutional Court (MK).

"We must respect such a legal process, the material test will then be followed by another decision. I think we must be respectful in state structure activities," said Jokowi in a dialogue with journalists at the Presidential Palace on Friday, November 1.

The revised KPK Law was met with strong rejection by members of the public. Many view the revised law is a tool to legally clip the wings of the anti-graft body.

A series of protests ensued after the KPK Law was passed. This urged President Jokowi to hold a meeting with figures and academics to accommodate the voices of the public, which led to the president announcing he would consider issuing a KPK Law Perpu.

The KPK Law is currently being tested at the MK after a number of university students filed a lawsuit against it.
