TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo expected major reforms in the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

“I also demand all support major reforms in Education and Culture Ministry and Religious Affairs Ministry,” said the President during a limited meeting on the program presentation of human and cultural development in his office, Jakarta, Thursday, Oct. 31.

The state head specifically expressed his optimism and faith in Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim and Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi whom he deemed having sufficient experience to execute the reform.

He asserted the reform must be carried out by exploiting technology.

The President demanded a system or application that ease teachers and students in learning activities. Also, he expected ministers to identify existing problems and mindful that Indonesia was not merely Java Island but from Sabang to Merauke.

“Thus, we must thoroughly review the adjustment in the curriculum since the world rapidly changes, current science skills are easily outdated in one to two days due to rapid development. So it must be updated and upgraded. Don’t be late,” Joko Widodo stressed.

The education curriculum, he went on, must be designed flexibly in line with the current changes.

In addition to the curriculum, President Jokowi demanded improvement in the quality of teachers through an application or a quick system in order to achieve equity in education across the archipelago. “Use digital technology to accelerate, quicken, and ease the access to education service,” he remarked.
