TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mayapada Hospital in Lebak Bulus, South Jakarta was hit by fires on Monday evening, October 28. The blaze allegedly broke out from the fifth floor of the building.

"Thick smoke comes out from the fifth floor of the hospital [where] the server rooms that are full of electric cables are located," said the head of South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency operational division Sugeng, Monday night.

Sugeng said that his division mobilized 10 fire trucks to extinguish the flame that started at 07:05 p.m. Jakarta time. Patients and medical personnel inside the building had been evacuated as well. Regarding the cause, Sugeng said he could not confirm it yet.

Cilandak Resort Police Chief M Marbun said that the flame had been put out successfully at around 11 p.m. He explained the burned area was a medical room on the upper floor of the hospital, yet he stopped short of detailing the exact room.

“We will later collect the information because the smoke is still hanging. We will find out what is really happening,” Marbun said on Monday.

When asked about the cause, the police chief said it was possibly triggered by a short circuit and assured no casualty from the incident. Hospital management responded quickly to the fire, as well as the firefighters and staffers in the area, he added.
