TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia Artificial Intelligence Society (IAIS) inaugurated its establishment inder the Smart Indonesia Initiative Association. IAIS is led by Lukas with a vision to create new inventions through innovation and artificial intelligence in Indonesia.

During the inauguration of IAIS on Friday, October 25, 2019, Lukas stated that IAIS was established with two main missions: to create an artificial intelligence ("AI") roadmap for the country, and "to develop the competency of local AI and technological leadership with a focus on academic, business, and government."

Lukas said that to achieve its vision and mission, IAIS was established on three main foundations: research department, technology, and innovation. "The three departments are the foundation to achieve Indonesia's interest," Lukas added.

Therefore, Lukas asserted that IAIS is a community established in Indonesia for the Indonesian sovereignty. Furthermore, Lukas explained that the society, which was started as a WhatsApp group, now has approximately 200 members from various elements.

"IAIS actually exists since January 24, 2019, but this is the inauguration. Now our members are academic, researcher, corporate, and individuals," Lukas added.

In addition to its establishment, IAIS also launched the website indonesiaai.org for publication and as a platform for collaboration.

"The website act as news portal for all IAIS activities. In addition, it is also open for new membership who has the same spirit with us, just register," said IAIS Director of Technology Adnan Batara on the same occasion.

In addition to news portal, Adnan said that the site can also be utilized for crowd journalis. "We will encourage members to create content about idea or any innovation they are working on in the field of IA. If it qualifies, we will make it an article," Adnan added.

The Indonesia Technology Study and Application Agency (BPPT) welcomed the establishment of IAIS. "AI will be very useful for countries wanting to advance or become super power. AI also act in all line of SDG [Sustainable Development Goals] wanted to be achieved by the government. Therefore, we are happy with the presence of the community," said Chief of BPPT Hammam Riza during the inauguration event.

Lukas and Hammam agreed that artificial intelligence technology must be done in collaboration with corporation, academician, government, and AI enthusiasts.

"Indonesia can be categorized as lagging behind in the implementation of AI, therefore, we need to collaborate and close the gap," Hammam said.
