TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Newly-appointed Attorney General ST Burhanuddin said he would list the handling of the past human rights violations cases into his 100-day program plan he was drafting.

When asked about the incomplete cases on severe human rights violations, Burhanuddin explained he would sort out a work scale priority, which included those issues.

“But, these human rights violations cases have not met the formal material requirements, so we will clear the files. Because, if the requirements have not been fulfilled, we are sorry but we will return them,” said Burhanuddin, Friday, October 25.

The National Commission on Human Rights or Komnas HAM submitted ten cases of alleged severe human rights violations to the Attorney General's Office (AGO) in November 2018. Some of the cases were the events of the 1965-1966 purge, the mysterious killings or Petrus of 1982-1985, the 1997/1998 activist kidnappings, as well as the 1998 Semanggi and Trisakti tragedies.

However, the AGO returned nine of the ten cases that were being investigated. Komnas HAM chairman Ahmad Taufan Damanik hoped ST Burhanuddin was committed to resolving the cases.
