TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chairman of the Indonesian Rectors’ Forum (FRI), Yos Johan Utama said that he will wait for “out of the box” ideas on the country’s education from newly-appointed Education and Cultural Affairs Minister Nadiem Makarim.

“Nadiem is used to think out of the box in his previous position at GoJek,” said Yos Johan in Semarang, Wednesday, October 23.

Yos added that the Ministry’s work program could be accelerated under Nadiem’s leadership, as he did with the startup he led from scratch. However, he remained realistic and will closely monitor the performance of President Jokowi’s new Cabinet in the following 100-days.

“Let’s see what can be achieved in the next three months, or their first 100-days of work as Ministers,” said Yos, who’s also the rector of the University of Diponegoro Semarang.

The GoJek founder and former CEO, Nadiem Makarim officially took oath as Education and Cultural Affairs Minister on Wednesday. Unlike President Jokowi’s first-term, the 2019-2024 Cabinet will see higher-education placed under Makarim’s ministry.
