Lake Toba to Have Scenic Camping Spot: Tourism Minister

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lake Toba, as one of the tourist attractions in North Sumatra, will soon have a scenic camping spot, with investment valued at Rp500 billion (some US$35 million).
“Imagine it as Amanwana in Moyo Island, Sumbawa, which ever be visited by Lady Diana. We will have another one in Lake Toba,” Tourism Minister Arif Yahya stated after a meeting at the Coordinating Ministry of Maritime Affairs’ building in Jakarta, Friday, Oct 4.
Yahya noted that the groundbreaking of the glamorous camp is scheduled to be held on Oct 14, as the project is expected to be completed in two years, by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
He affirmed that facilities at the glamorous camp can be marketed at a premium price of $1,000 to 2,000 a night.
Yahya explained that a private local investor is investing in this glamorous camp project. Furthermore, several investors, linked to international hotels, will build up five-star hotels in Lake Toba’s area.
On another occasion, Coordinator Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan remarked that the Indonesian government had persistently adopted the open-door principle with regard to investors keen on developing Lake Toba.
“Apart from the glamorous camp site, also planned are three five-star hotels also having the groundbreaking process. It parallels with the development of infrastructure,” Pandjaitan stated.
He remarked that the infrastructure around the Lake Toba area pertained to roadway, electricity, optical fibers, waste processing installation, and clean water supply facility.
