TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Army Commander General (Ret.) Gatot Nurmantyo reminded the Indonesian National Army (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) must not allow themselves to be clashed against each other.

"So, Polri is the right hand of the President in conditions of civil order and the TNI is the President's left hand," Gatot said at the Halim Perdana Kusuma Airbase on Saturday, October 5, 2019.

However, Gatot said that the condition will be turned over in times of national emergency, where the TNI will serve as the President's right hand and Polri will be the left hand.

This means, Gatot explained, the two institutions, Polri and TNI, has important roles in the state's governance.

"Therefore, don't be provoked into clashing. Because if [TNI and Polri] clashed, the President will lost his two arms," Gatot said.
