TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Nila Djuwita Farid Moeloek assessed one of the ways to suppress the deficit of the Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) is a healthy lifedata-style and environment.

"BPJS incurs deficit because many people fall ill. If people adopt a healthy lifedata-style, they will not get sick,” said Nila in Jakarta, Wednesday, October 2.

Nila said that a dirty environment would lead to diseases. Therefore, she asserted the importance of preserving environmental quality.

“When we are not in a healthy condition, the illness will continuously aim us. So it is necessary to change our lifedata-style,” she said. Nila further urged the public to understand the importance of a healthy living lifedata-style, instead of merely increased the insurance premium.

Public awareness on health, Nila added, must continue to be developed considering the current condition is truly alarming.

Previously, the Finance Ministry noted that the BPJS Kesehatan deficit continued to increase since 2014. This year’s figure was estimated to reach Rp28.5 trillion. One of the main causes of the deficit was the claim payment of the insurance participant, which was larger than the premium set.
