TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan called for today’s street protest put forth nonviolence as he claims the government has done its best to listen to the people’s demands.

“Did yesterday’s street protest have to opt to vandalism? What has the government failed to listen to? Isn’t the President a decent person?” said the minister in South Jakarta today.

He asserts the government has well-aware accommodated a number of demands expressed by multiple groups within society, such as the postponement of the criminal code draft bill or RKUHP that many deemed deeply troublesome.

As of the passed bill on the corruption eradication commission or KPK Law, Minister Luhut said an opportunity for people to file a judicial review against the law has been made available by the government. He also announced that the bill is undergoing a judicial review.

Minister Luhut Binsar then questioned the ongoing demonstrations’ irrelevance as it does not carry the same demands the earlier protests had.
