Indonesia-Japan to Sign MoU on Semi-fast Train

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The governments of Indonesia and Japan are scheduled to sign a memorandum or understanding on the summary notes for the revitalization of the north-Java crossroad train (semi-fast train) today, September 24.
The Transportation Ministry's head of public information and communication Hengki Angkasawan said the MoU would cover several technical aspects of the Jakarta-Surabaya fast train, as well as the empowerment of the national railroad industry and project financing through a government-to-business (KPBU) schemes.
The next stage of this project development is the preparatory survey by the JICA Team, which is scheduled to be completed in October 2020.
The government, Hengki said, seeks to improve service and transport capacity in the Jakarta-Surabaya railway, given the large potential for demand growth.
Hengki hopes the project will further improve train services. Once completed, the train will cut short the travel time between Jakarta and Surabaya to 5.5 hours.
"We also hope it will empower the domestic industry through optimization of local content in project development," he said in a press release, Tuesday.
