Garuda Indonesia Offers Pilot Scholarship for Papuans

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State airliner Garuda Indonesia has announced it opens pilot scholarship for five outstanding Papuans to develop careers in 2020.

The corporate president director Ari Ashkara said his side is targeting to increase the number of flight attendants from the country’s easternmost province to build careers in the group.

“We always provide opportunities as wide as possible for all employees to develop careers regardless of their race, ethnicity, culture,” said Ari in a press release, Thursday, September 12.

He called on all young Papuans to be highly optimistic and work hard should they are willing to join the flag carrier.

Ari assured that all recruitment and opportunities on career development for workers are counted based on each individual’s achievement and excellence which are obviously diverse.

So far, the company has 24 pilots and 18 flight crews as well as more ground workers who hail from Papua. Besides, it planned to introduce various and rich taste Papua cuisines in its inflight service.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2019, Garuda announced it recruited two female pilots from Papua. They are Vanda Astri Korisano and Martha Itaar.
