TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Thomas Lembong recalled that he has been given a one-month deadline by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to solve issues within Indonesia’s investment climate.

“[President Jokowi] said that the state ministers must be reprimanded by the head of BKPM. The lack of foreign direct investments (FDI) is because of burdening rules and requirements. So Mr.President, I will be allowed to be aggravated by the situation. I am permitted by the President to do that,” the BKPM Head recalls on Wednesday.

As an immediate follow-up, Thomas says that the board will start to keep track of the regulations and permits that are hampering the country’s investment growth. Not only that, but he also asserts that nearly every state ministry and agency have, in one way or another, contributed to producing the burdening regulations.

“One common complaint in the business is about inspections done by surveyors such as pre-shipment inspections. And inspections by PT Sucofindo, PT Surveyor Indonesia, those are in all honesty not contributing to added value, but rather adding issues,” said Thomas Lembong.
