TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo says he is unworthy to receive the AFEO (ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations) Distinguished Honorary Patron Award.

“The one who deserves the award is not me,” said Jokowi in opening the 37th Conference ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (CAFEO37) at JIEXPO on Wednesday, September 11.

The president thanked for the award but asserts that it should be given to Indonesian engineers that have tirelessly worked in the field, in rural areas, and isolated locations in developing Indonesia as a nation.

AFEO Chairman and head of the Indonesian engineers' society (PII) Heru Dewanto says that the award the highest the organization grants to state leaders.

According to Heru, this award is only given once in every annual ASEAN engineers’ organization conference with state leaders such as Presidents, Kings, or Prime Ministers as its recipients.

President Jokowi’s award, Heru explains, is because of the ratification of the Engineering Law that further strengthens the organization’s professions and a real-world contribution toward Indonesian engineers that take significant roles behind every infrastructure projects.
