TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Responding to rumors about work termination (PHK), Bukalapak spokesperson Intan Wibisono has confirmed that her corporate will dismiss 10 percent of its total number of employees or around 250 workers.
“The number is small, only 10 percent of total employees at 2500 people. So, it’s surely limited and selective,” said Intan to Tempo, Tuesday, September 10.
The country’s unicorn is set to conduct planned layoffs gradually. The decision is made in a bid to maintain the sustainability of its business strategy.
She underlined that despite the layoff, the e-commerce company will still recruit new employees.
Intan added that her corporate will grant interesting compensation for dismissed workers, compared to that of regulated in the Employment Law.
“[The compensation is] even better than that of noted in the regulation. But it definitely is based on the law and even better,” she remarked.
The reason, Intan went on, is because of the growth of gross merchandise value (GMV), which is a key value of any e-commerce, and the higher status of the firm. “We have successfully booked higher monetization and profitability than we previously expected,” she revealed.
Moreover, corporate structuring will be carried out in a limited and selective manner. “So we can focus to implement a long-term business strategy.”
Intan further said that Bukalapak’s gross income in mid-2019 saw three-fold hike compared to that in mid-2018. “We reduce half the loss from income before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) for the last eight months,” she concluded.
