TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Kivlan Zen, former Chief of Staff for the Strategic Reserves of the Maj. Gen. (ret), will undergo an indictment hearing for alleged illegal firearms possession. Kivlan's attorney, Tonin Tachta, said the first hearing would take place at the Central Jakarta District Court.

"The prosecutors will read out the indictment," Tonin said when contacted on Monday night, September 9.

Tonin said Kivlan's trial was originally scheduled for 10:00 a.m., but it was pushed backed to 14:00.

The police named Kivlan a suspect in illegal firearm possession. According to police statements, Kivlan obtained the weapons from Azwarmy a.k.a. AZ, one of the six suspects in the May 22 riot case. AZ is Kivlan's personal driver, and he allegedly bought the weapon at the behest of his boss.

The police said that Kivlan bought the weapon to kill four high-ranking state officials and one survey agency leader. He obtained the money to purchase of weapons from United Development Party (PPP) politician, Habil Marati, who was also named a suspect.

For the charges, Kivlan Zen is facing up to 20 years in prison. He had filed for a pretrial lawsuit in the South Jakarta District Court, but the court turned it down.
