TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The asylum seekers who are accommodated at the Kalideres facility demands the UNHCR provide them with a new shelter as the current one in the former military command (Kodim) headquarters is about to be closed today, September 5.

A bewildered refugee, Muhammad Hanif, says the refugees have nowhere to go. “Where will we be moved to. The UNHCR has yet provided us with space,” he said.

As an officially registered refugee under the UNHCR, Hanif said that he has the right to be accommodated inside a shelter as the international organization had promised.

The refugee then said that he might return occupying the sidewalks in front of the UNHCR headquarters at Jalan Kebon Sirih until a proper shelter is prepared.

“We will return to the UNHCR office at Kebon Sirih once we are told to leave the current place,” said Hanif. As of now, there are around 500 asylum seekers at the Kalideres facility before they would forcefully be relocated to a yet to be announced location.
