TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi has held a limited meeting regarding the current situation in Papua at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Friday, August 30, upon arriving in Jakarta from his official visit to Yogyakarta.

“This limited meeting will discuss handlings in Papua. I hope, maintain the security and public order. There are regulations, take firm action against those committing violence,” the President remarked.

He asserted that there was no tolerance for rioters and anarchists. He called on law enforcers to take firm actions against those who commit racial acts in any form.

“I have received reports. Legal actions must be taken either to civilians, military officers, or whoever commits it,” he said.

He also instructed to maintain security in the country’s eastern province and immediately recover the tense conditions. Because, he added, every citizen’s dignity and honor must be protected.

Jokowi then demanded wrecked public facilities be restored immediately so that public and governmental activities could return to normal. "I believe Papuans are peace-loving people," he said.

Among those attending the meeting were Vice President Jusuf Kalla, State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Chief Budi Gunawan, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, and National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian.
