TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government announced it will not rush the implementation of the 5G network which has been as one of the nation’s programs to overcome domestic economic issues as it is predicted to open larger opportunities for global vendors to elevate its business scale in Indonesia.

According to Adis Alifiawan, Head of the fixed and mobile land agency’s (DTBD) spectrum allocation arrangement subdirectory of the Communication and Informatics Ministry (Kominfo), the main reason behind the implementation of the 5G network is to boost the industrial sectors deemed to be significant for the national economy such as logistics, agriculture, and maritime affairs.

“The government is not in a position to hastily enter the 5G era since the market for that network had just emerged. Those profiting from it is not Indonesia, but global vendors since the market will be more open and they could produce in larger quantities and enjoy profits,” said Adis to Bisnis.com on Saturday, August 24.

Related to this issue, the Indonesian government plans to form a partnership with industries to form a 5G task force in an attempt to establish a 5G implementation business base model between the government and the private industry.

This strategy is hoped to better lead the direction of the 5G technology development and aim at a collective goal. The government has also prepared policies related to the tech’s implementation such as its spectrum allocation, fiber optic, construction technical competence, and customer access.
