TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency’s (BMKG) Tangerang Climatology Station II announced an early warning of drought in all areas of Banten and Jakarta as the two provinces have entered the dry season. The public is appealed to stay vigilant following the threat of drought.

The data showed that most areas of the capital city and its vicinity, particularly Banten Province, will experience 20 days to over 60 days without rain.

This condition is predicted to affect rain-fed agricultural lands, low supply of groundwater, clean water scarcity, up to the increase in air pollution in the two regions.

At present, the government continues to monitor the impact on regional and national inflation. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution said his ministry would prepare various strategies to deal with issues possibly rise following a prolonged drought.

Previously, the meteorology agency's head Dwikorita Karnawati predicted this year’s dry season that possibly causes drought would peak in August.
