TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil agrees on the planned presence of young ministers in the cabinet of Joko Widodo or Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin.

“The final of the development process is the result. If it can be hastened by the presence of young ministers because their mobility is more active and agile, I think I support it,” said the governor in Bandung, Monday, August 12.

Ridwan Kamil, who is popularly known as Kang Emil, opined that the presence of ministers from the millennial generation could represent the proportion of the Indonesian population. “[They will] represent the majority of the Indonesia population, of which 30-70 percent are young people within the next 30 years as predicted,” he added.

Ridwan Kamil underscored that people at a young age did not necessarily mean they lacked experience. “Maturity cannot be measured by age. In my opinion, the most important thing is, either juniors or seniors, just work well, strategically, and create changes. That’s what I think that matters, it’s not about putting different generations in a competition.”

Despite being relatively young, Ridwan Kamil said he was unwilling to join the second cabinet of the Jokowi administration.

“I have to prove myself as a leader of West Java, it’s only been a year. I’m currently eager to develop West Java, so my focus is on West Java,” Ridwan Kamil concluded.
