TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo encouraged Jakarta provincial administration to provide incentives for the electric car industry.
“We support [the incentive provision], especially in Jakarta that has huge APBD (Regional Budget). I think it can be started [from the capital],” said Jokowi after inaugurating the new ASEAN building, Jakarta, Thursday, August 8.
Jokowi reiterated that the incentive provision could be in various forms, such as free parking tariff and a subsidy for vehicle purchase.
“There are several countries that grant a certain amount of subsidies for vehicle purchase. And it can be started from Jakarta for its bus, taxi transportation, or even electric-powered motorcycle,” Jokowi added.
Furthermore, the President expected the EV industry in the country to suppress the product price.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan who was accompanying the President during the event responded that his staffer planned to exempt the EV operation from the odd-even policy in the capital.
Jokowi earlier said that he has ratified the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on electric cars on Monday, August 5.
