TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Air quality forecaster of major cities in the world, AirVisual, ranks Jakarta's air quality index (AQI) second-worst this morning, August 2.

Indonesia’s capital scored 162 at 05:30 Indonesia Western Time (WIB), but has since gone down to 158 (PM2.5 | 68.1 µg/m³) at 07:00 even though still ranks second worst.

United Arab Emirate's Dubai ranking first with an AQI score of 171 (PM2.5 | 94.4 µg/m³) at 05:30WIB and still tops the list by scoring 176 one and a half hours later.

Bangladesh city of Daka ranked the third with AQI score of 159, followed by Tashkent in Uzbekistan with 153 AQI score.

The fifth most polluted city is Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, by scoring 145 (PM2.5 | 53.4 µg/m³) with the category of unhealthy air for sensitive groups.

Previously, Jakarta consecutively ranked first in the forecast air quality information website which led to several lawsuits against seven state organizations that were filed by environmental groups such as WALHI and Greenpeace.

The environmentalists deemed that the rights of Jakartans to breathe healthy air had been violated by city administrators that seem to have neglected the issue of pollution.

In tackling the worsening pollution, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan eventually issued the Governor’s Instruction No. 66/2019 on air quality control that was ratified on August 1st.
