TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Research, Technology, and Higher Education Minister Mohamad Nasir said there are a number of elements hampering the progress of research and innovation in Indonesia, but first and foremost is the lack of coordination between institutions.

This lack of communication according to him leads to overlapping researches being commenced by more than one institution and the research itself that is unsynchronized with the industry.

“All of the innovation must have a link with the industry, it is no longer ‘supply says’, but we must view it from the viewpoint of what the ‘demand says.’ We should produce what the industry needs,” said Nasir.

The new law, National System of Science and Technology Law (UU Sisnas Iptek), mentions about an institution that is named the Development, Assessment, and Application Research Institute (Litbangjirap).

This law was freshly announced by the House of Representatives (DPR) on Tuesday, July 16.

“The research institute is hoped to create future inventions and innovations that are useful for the industry and people in general, this would spend a competitive cost to do research,” he said.
