TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) Minister Rudiantara thinks the USD 2 billion (Rp28 trillion) investment from SoftBank to Grab Indonesia shows that global investors see Indonesia as a potential digital market.

“Indonesia’s digital economy growth is the largest, especially in ASEAN,” said Rudiantara at his office in Central Jakarta yesterday.

This follows Indonesia’s goal back in 2016 upon helping to develop 1,000 startups, two years after in 2018, the goal passed its 50 percent mark thanks to the 1,000 digital startup program that produced 525 startups.

Rudiantara gave an example of domestic startups such as Bukalapak and Gojek, both have earned the decacorn valuation.

“It’s evident Gojek has expanded to other places. So has Bukalapak,” said Rudiantara.

SoftBank hopes that its investment will further push for the Grab Indonesia’s digital services, important services, and digital infrastructure, to help Grab dominate the Southeast Asian digital economy.
