TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Directorate General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation has ensured flights from and to West Java are operating normally after Mount Tangkuban Parahu in Bandung, West Java erupted on Friday, July 26.

"The current eruption had no impact on flights," Director General of Air Transportation, Polana B Pramesti, said in a statement Friday, July 26.

Polana urged all relevant parties to coordinate and monitor the impact of the eruption.

"We will continue to monitor the progress of the impact of the eruption of Mount Tangkuban Parahu so that all teams can be prepared and the right efforts in handling the impact of volcanic ash for flights can be informed immediately," he said.

According to Head of Airport Authority Region I, Herson, the domestic flight routes in West Java and surrounding areas are still safe.

"The domestic flight route does not go through the area around Tangkuban Perahu. The international flight route flies at an appropriate height so that it does not have an impact. If later, there is an impact of volcanic ash, the flight route will be diverted immediately," he explained.

The eruption occurred for five minutes and 30 seconds, the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) stated. The PVMBG added that the volcano was still within the level 1 status or normal but it was declared to be unstable and the status can change in any given time.
