Mt Tangkuban Parahu Erupts, Tourists Told to Stay Away

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) Kasbani explained that Mount Tangkuban Parahu spewed phreatic eruption at 3:48 PM Indonesia Western Time (WIB). The eruption reached as high as 200 meters above its peak.
"It has now settled down," said Kasbani in his text message to Tempo on Friday, July 26, 2019. "Phreatic eruptions come suddenly without giving out any clear volcanic symptoms."
Eruption debris from the 2,284 meter-tall mountain headed Northeast and South and is now deemed normal or 'Level 1' by the institution.
Under its latest status, PVMBG recommends tourists to avert from entering the mountain’s popular crater tourist destinations; Kawah Ratu and Kawah Upas. Tourists are also advised to avoid stay within the mountain’s complex.
Mt. Tangkuban Parahu spewed phreatic eruption back in 2013 which produced puffs of gas clouds for roughly a week. A phreatic eruption also called a phreatic explosion or steam-blast eruption occurs when magma heats ground or surface water.
