TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of asylum seekers dwelling in the temporary refugee post in Daan Mogot Baru residential complex, Kalideres, West Jakarta is gradually increasing since they arrived on July 11. They presumably got a broadcasting message, so those who were not relocated from Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta keep coming.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) recorded there were some 300 asylum seekers, and now the figure jumped to 1,266 people. The updated registration by the immigration officers even obtained a higher number. This does not include those who are accommodated in detention centers.

Kalideres Immigration Detention Center head Morina Harahap asserted there was no foreigner from her place moved to the refugee location, and she did not accommodate asylum seeker in the house.

Morina explained the detention center has no duty and responsibility to take care of asylum seekers. “Our task is to set a temporary place for foreigners who violated the immigration administration while waiting for the deportation,” she added.

Moreover, the detention center was already full as it only has 51 rooms. “We are now accommodating 144 people,” she said.

UNHCR recorded the number of asylum seekers who have registered and entered Indonesia as follows:
- 2008: 385 people

- 2009: 3,230 people

- 2010: 3,905 people

- 2011: 4,052 people

- 2012: 7,223 people

- 2013: 8,332 people

- 2014: 5,659 people

- 2015. 4,426 people

- 2016: 3,112 people

- 2017: 13,840 people

- 2018: 2,945 people

Meanwhile, the number of asylum seekers in 2019 per date reached 1,266 people. They hailed from Afghanistan (971), Somalia (130), Sudan (70), China (1), Palestine (2), Irak (9), Pakistan (45), Iran (7), Ethiopia (30), and Italy (1).
