Jokowi Sees Off 80 Delegates to World Scout Jamboree

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has seen off contingents of theIndonesian Scout Movement (Pramuka) to the 24th World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, United States, at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday, July 19. During his speech, the head of the Pramuka advisory board called on all participants to preserve the good name of Indonesia during the event.

The president said there were 50 million members of Pramuka across the world, and 25 million or half of them were Indonesians. “So the Indonesian scout movement must actively participate in the global event,” he noted.

The former Jakarta governor then demanded participants showcase tp the world Indonesia’s positive images by being friendly, polite, noble, and willing to help others.

Jokowi further reminded the contingents to tap into this opportunity to gain experience and friendship with other scout members of foreign countries. “Take this as a provision to enhance leadership skills, upgrade capabilities as a capital for self-development.”

The head of the National Scout Movement, Budi Waseso, mentioned there were 80 delegations from Indonesia, 67 of them between the ages of 14-17 years, and the rest were contingent leaders and mentors.

Budi Waseso explained the world jamboree will be held on July 22-August 2, 2019, involving 45,000 Pramuka members from 150 countries.
