TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani stated that the Indonesian government officially recommended the World Customs Forum Organization (WCO) form a joint research group to focus on issues of cross-border e-commerce.
“This group will facilitate a number of discussions and exchange views between members regarding cross-border e-commerce, especially its transactions,” said Sri Mulyani when opening the meeting with WCO secretary-general Kunio Mikuriya in Brussels today.
She further offered that this group could also synergize with other international organizations such as WTO and UNCTAD to hold research and study numerous issues comprehensively. Relevant issues in the industry include trade facilities, data security aspects, the provision of trade statistics, and e-commerce tax or excise impositions.
Sri Mulyani acknowledged that cross-border e-commerce was a lingering issue that had yet to be solved by the Indonesian Finance Ministry.
