TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ) head Bambang Prihartono recommended Jakarta provincial administration to apply the odd-even policy as implemented during 2018 Asian Games.

According to Bambang, the measure is necessary to alleviate the worsening congestion and pollution in the capital.

“Every morning, the lineup of vehicles passing Cawang Toll heading to Semanggi reach Cibubur, and we have extended contraflow scheme until 10 a.m. from previously at 9 a.m. This jam is already severe, and we have to anticipate it,” Bambang told Tempo, July 10.

Bambang explained his side would discuss the proposal to the city administration, as well three governors and eight regents or mayors in Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi).

According to him, dissemination of the extended traffic policy would be easier as it had been implemented. “So we can apply the regulation the same as that in Asian Games,” Bambang underlined.

During the continental multi-sport event last August, Jakarta administration and other city administrations imposed the odd-even policy for 15 hours a day from 06:00 to 21:00. The policy aimed at preventing athletes from congestion to and from the match location.

The affected route was also extended, viz. Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Jalan MH. Thamrin, Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan Sisingamangaraja, Jalan Jenderal Gatot Subroto, some roads of Jalan Jenderal S Parman (Slipi intersection - Tomang intersection), Jalan MT Haryono, Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Jalan Jenderal DI Panjaitan, Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Jalan Benyamin Sueb, Jalan Metro Pondok Indah, and Jalan RA Kartini.
